Diet does not mean eating less. There is a misconception in our country that 'dieting' means eating less. It actually means eating right.
Why is losing weight important?
The first answer which comes to most people's mind is appearance but I would like to say that it is important to lose weight mainly because being overweight or obese leads to other health problems. So to remain healthy, one needs to maintain ideal body weight.
What would you need to do?
The first step is to decide that you need to lose weight. That itself is a big step. Next step is to commit yourself to the diet. Be willing to do regular follow ups which helps you remain motivated. With the diet you should be willing to do some form of physical activity.
How much weight will you lose?
Weight loss cannot be generalised. It will differ from person to person. Anywhere between 2-4 kgs is considered healthy weight loss. Also, it will completely depend upon your commitment to the diet and willingness to make lifestyle changes.
I do not believe or recommend fad diets. I believe, a balanced nutrition is a must even during weight loss.
